This 5-inch cutwork design can be stitched
in a 5x7 or larger embroidery hoop
with water soluble stabilizer and then the windows
on the upper wings cut out,  
or as an alternative,
in regular-design fashion with tearaway or cutaway
stabilizer and not cut.

The butterfly is a favorite and its open and airy
satin and other stitches really compliment
this flying insect's features.

One or two butterflies would be beautiful stitched on
the front of a little white pinafore or other overskirt
revealing a pastel pink or blue dress below
or
using colored threads (tone-on-tone)  on napkins
for a light and airy spring or summer patio party,
aprons, curtains or pillows and pillowcases.

The butterfly above was tested in a 5x7 hoop
on broadcloth with regular stabilizer
but not used as cutwork.


Butterfly on left was stitched using
water soluble stabilizer on broadcloth.
After the stitching was complete, the upper
wing sections'  windows were carefully cut
from the backside of the design
and water soluble then washed away.  
Note: white fabric placed behind to show cutwork.
